Episode 2: Social Media Monster

Episode 2: Social Media Monster

Hello again Duhmericana listeners!

Wilx and Benzy here! We got another podcast up for you guys. This time around, it’s about the beast that has integrated itself into almost every corner of our lives: Social Media!

We know social media has its ups and downs. Many trend-savvy people have been able to make a career out of their influence and reach, but at what cost? We’ve both experienced that disheartening moment when one of our favorite bloggers or Insta-famous celebrities “sell out” and are blatantly pandering products to their followers without being sure they truly support the company/product/etc.

On top of the constant barrage of advertisements, even in a favorite blogger’s feed, we also have to deal with the weight of comparison that comes upon us. It’s easy to forget that it is a 2×2 inch image of a zoomed in, filtered, cropped vignette that doesn’t show the behind the scenes of that person’s life, only their highlight reel.

Our “Duh!” Moments this week are:
-If you are a blogger, don’t jeopardize the trust you’ve worked so hard to build among your followers just to sell some ad space or for a caption. We all gotta eat, we all gotta work, but we learned to trust your judgment and are counting on your honesty
- If you are NOT a blogger but are actively a social media user, don’t allow yourself to get inundated with profiles, bloggers, lists and the like, that only make you feel like somehow you aren’t measuring up. Don’t be afraid to delete delete delete! Curate a feed that inspires you and makes you feel pleasant and positive. We grow, we change, and we adjust to it!

We hope you enjoyed our podcast this week! As always, tune in soon and make sure to subscribe so you don’t miss an episode. Connect with us via our social media sites to leave suggestions for future topics!
